Removing interior window screens from casement or awning style windows during the heating season will increase airflow at the window surface and help to reduce condensation and ice build up during extreme cold periods.

During the heating season and specifically when we experience extreme cold spells, we need to be adjusting, on a daily basis, the amount of humidity we are introducing into our home via the furnace humidifier. Too much humidity in your home during extreme cold temperatures can contribute to ice build up on your windows and the phenomenon known as 'attic rain'.

If you have central air conditioning, you still need to be replacing your furnace filter every 90 days as the air that is being moved through your home by the furnace fan is heavier than heated air. A clogged filter, during the cooling season, will have as detrimental an effect on your fan motor as is it would during the heating season.

Did you know.....

Your bath fan should be running during bathing or showering and be left on for a minimum of 30 minutes after you are done. An easy way to avoid having to remember to shut the fan off is to have a digital timer switch installed that can be preset to the desired time span.
